Click It or Ticket Campaign

The Driver Education Program will participate in the State Department of Transportation's statewide "Click It or Ticket" seat belt campaign during the months of February through May 2011.  The DOT is concerned that children and youth between the ages of 4 and 17 are still not buckling-up when riding as passengers in the back seat of vehicles.

Pennies for Patients

Our annual pennies collection drive will be kicking off in February.  It is one of our monthly school-wide civic responsibility projects that we hope everyone will be able to participate in.  Classrooms challenge one another to see who can collect the most coins over a two week period.  The top classroom will receive a pizza party.  Last year Ms. Correia's class won the pizza party and our school raised over $1,500 that was used to help educate others and find cures for blood cancer.

Book of the Month - El Chino

IB Learner Profile:  Independence     IB Attributes:  Commitment, Confidence, Thinker
(Learner profile and attributes that are demonstrated by the character in the book.  We want students to to demonstrate these attributes.)

Our Principal's Book of the Month is "El Chino" by Allen Say.  A biography of Bong Way "Billy" Wong, a Chinese American and the famous first Chinese Matador in Spain.  Billy always remembered his father's words:  "In America, you can be anything you want to be."  On his first vacation to Europe, Billy was enchanted by Spain and what he saw there, especially the bull fights.  He decided he would become a Spanish Matador.  "Ah Senor...Only the Spainards can become true matadors."  A Chinese bull fighter?!  No one had ever heard or seen of such a matador!  What must Billy overcome and how does he do it?
