Harvest

Ms. Correia's Class had their vermicast harvest on May 21, 2012.  During the harvest, they separated the vermicast/worms from the unprocessed chunks.  After the harvest, students were able to separate the worms into 3 more additional worm bins which will be used by Mrs. Lactaoen, Mr. Matsuura, and Ms. Tasha Firestone's classes next school year.  The students had a fun time at the harvest!  The vermicast will be used in the school's Native Hawaiian garden.  Thank you to Mindy Jaffe, Waikiki Worm Company and the City and County for their support of this project!  Stay tuned for more information next school year!

Hawaiian Electric Home Energy Challenge

We have received our mid-program results from the Home Energy Challenge.  For the months of October, November, and December, Keone'ula families have had a reduction of -11%.  We have about 2 more months to go with the challenge so we encourage you to continue with your conservation efforts!

Remember that any family that has an overall reduction in their energy use at the end of the program (whether our school wins or not) will be able to participate in the drawing for a free photovoltaic system know as the Kumu Kit, courtesy of Hawaii Energy Connection.

Don't forget you can go to heco.com and download energy conservation tips from 101 Ways to Save and Power to Save.  Also be sure to review your electric usage on your monthly bills.  Pay attention to the kWh and not the dollar amount!
